Text Box: Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society, Inc. (SVLAS) was incorporated in 1972 and is the oldest rural Legal Aid in  Virginia.  Covering a mountainous area of almost 8,700 square miles, SVLAS provides legal services to a low-income community of 92,000 people from three field offices located throughout the region.  

SVLAS is a law firm organized as a not-for-profit corporation.  We provide free legal services regarding civil matters to income eligible persons.

SVLAS is funded by a number of sources, without which our work would not be possible.  Our funding sources:

Legal Services Corporation of Virginia (LSCV), our conduit for state funding
Legal Services Corporation (LSC), the conduit for our federal funding
U.S. Department of Justice funds SVLAS to provide civil legal representation to victims of domestic violence.
Department of Criminal Justice Services  provides funding to provide civil legal representation to victims of domestic violence
Virginia Law Foundation provides funding to help SVLAS  host two annual domestic violence cross-training seminars
